OUR PHILOSPOPHY

Our Statement of Purpose: Kids N Stuff: An Interactive Experience for Kids will enhance the educational  opportunities for children and their families by providing a creative and enriching experience through interactive exhibits and programs in the arts, humanities, sciences and technology. Through its programs and governance the museum will reflect the region’s rich ethnic, cultural and economic history.

Kids 'N' Stuff: An Interactive Experience for Kids, unlike other area museums, will focus on youth ages 10 months to 12 years old.

Our Service Philosophy

Collaboration – To work with local educators, area youth and youth service organizations to design programs and exhibits that will add another dimension to the topics offered by the local schools. Through these programs, Kids 'N' Stuff will reinforce the education that the youth are receiving in the schools.

Raising awareness- To design Programs that raise awareness of the world around us, including our unique cultural heritage and the environment in which we live.

Life Skills development- To develop programs to teach life skills, to expose students to new perspectives and help them learn to compromise.

Minds-on, Hands-on - To develop programming that will emphasize using the mind and the hands to explore and discover.

Interconnectivity - To demonstrate the relationships between the arts, humanities, sciences and technology.

Exhibits - To achieve distinction as an attractive destination for both tourists and children of the region, KNS has selected four guiding principles in the design of exhibits:

  • The focus of KNS will be to serve children aged 10 months to twelve years.

  • Interactive exhibits will be designed to reflect the history, geography economy, etc… of the South Central Lower Michigan region.

  • Additional exhibits and activities will be designed that reflect the rich diversity of the people in the South Central Lower Michigan Region.

  • KNS will collaborate with area schools to develop exhibits and programming that will enrich the K-5 curriculum.

The establishment of Kids ‘N Stuff began in April of 2000, when Parker “Tom” Feldpausch agreed to donate an 10,000+ sq ft building to Albion College, with the intent that a children’s museum be established. Albion College is an independent, coeducational, residential, undergraduate college of the liberal arts.  Founded in 1835, Albion College was fully authorized by the State legislature to confer a full four-year college degree upon both men and women in 1861. Soon after it was incorporated and an independent board of directors was formed, KNS decided that in order to achieve the identity and status they wished to hold, they would need to seek 501 (c)(3) status, and become an independent non-profit organization. Fortunately, the non-profit status of Albion College has allowed KNS to proceed with their Capital Campaign effort.
Kids 'N' Stuff: An Interactive Experience for Kids (KNS) was incorporated as a Michigan Nonprofit Organization on December 12, 2000. On April 11, 2001 KNS received federal status as a 501 (c) (3) Nonprofit Corporation. The primary purpose of the corporation is to establish and run the Kids 'N' Stuff: An Interactive Experience for Kids children’s museum.
